Card data compromised at U.S. retail chains

CNET News:TJX, which operates the T.J. Maxx and Marshalls chains, said the computer systems that process its customer transactions have been breached, and customer information has likely been stolen. The company announced Jan. 17 that it discovered the compromise in mid-December, but it does not yet know the full extent of the theft or the number of customers affected. The breach involves the network that handles credit card, debit card, check and return transactions at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and A.J. Wright stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, and Winners and HomeSense stores in Canada. The compromise might also affect affect customers at stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the company said.
