ATM fees climbing for non-customers, study finds
October 7, 2009
Bankrate.com reports that the average ATM fee for non-customers rose 12.6 percent this year to $2.22, according to results of its annual survey.
The report points out that consumers' primary FIs also are charging fees for out-of-network ATM use. The average fee banks charge their own customers for using an out-of-network ATM is $1.32. That fee, however, dropped from $1.46 in 2008, as some banks reduced or waived it, Bankrate.com says.
About 72 percent of banks now charge customers a fee for using an ATM from a different bank.
