3M develops transparent ATM cards

Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal:3M Co. has developed a new material for use in what is being touted as the first transparent ATM cards. Maplewood, Minn.-based 3M says its new infrared Vikuiti Clear Card Filter is powered by a proprietary multilayer, infrared-light-blocking optical film. The film reflects the infrared light generated by LEDs used in ATMs to detect the presence of a card.
