In this weekly series, we will be giving readers a reminder/refresher of the biggest news both in the banking industry and the ATM industry as a whole.

Binance disaster

The biggest news the week of Oct. 26 to 30 was the$6.3 billion hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Authorities believe that a North Korean sponsored hacking group is behind it: the same one that pulled off the second biggest heist in 2025 with the Bybit hack.

To put this number into perspective, this is bigger than any other bank robbery in recorded history. Binance was able to freeze $3 billion of the funds and has been replacing the lost cryptocurrency through reserve funds.
