Poste Italiane S.p.A., the government-owned postal service and financial-services center, has signed an ATM-deployment agreement and maintenance-services contract with Wincor Nixdorf AG, both companies announced yesterday.
Over the next two years, Wincor Nixdorf will install 1,100 ProCash 8050 ATMs in some of Poste Italiane's 14,000 branch offices. Once the installations are complete, Wincor Nixdorf will manage the ATMs for Poste Italiane, which is based in Rome. The ProCash 8050 is a lobby and outdoor-model ATM that dispenses cash but does not accept deposits.
The new ATMs, however, will offer customers more than cash dispensing, said officials of Wincor Nixdorf, which is based in Paderborn, Germany.
"Additional functionalities include scanning and paying invoices. Furthermore, the systems ensure that cash withdrawals can be handled securely since they are equipped with anti-skimming modules that prevent card data from being read or stolen," Wincor Nixdorf officials said.
The ATMs also emphasize environmental concerns. Documents are printed on both sides to save paper, and the ATMs switch to standby to reduce power consumption.
In addition to providing Italians with mail service, Poste Italiane manages Internet services, sells life insurance and investments. The agency owns 6,000 ATMs and 600-transaction terminals.
The agreement between Poste Italiane and Wincor Nixdorf revives the companies' 10-year relationship, said Federica Brambilla, head of the Bank Division for Wincor Nixdorf Italy.
"We worked together closely with Poste Italiane to provide an innovative, tailor-made solution that meets all the customer's requirements," Brambilla said.
