Windows 7 ATM migration remains largely incomplete after the April 8 deadline for end of XP support by Microsoft. Operators of XP-driven ATMs are scrambling to either complete the upgrade or implement the "compensating controls" required by PCI.
But even as deployers around the world take on the expense and labor required to bring their machines up to date, industry thinking about what's "up to date" is already changing.
As frustrating as this might be to some who'd like to give it a break and just be ATM operators for a minute already, it's energizing to deployers who want to know what's coming next to make their ATMs even more useful, profitable and secure.
Those in the latter group will have the opportunity to get an advance viewing of the future of ATM intelligence at a May 15 webinar presented by KAL and hosted by ATM Marketplace.

Steve Hensley, KAL EVP of sales and marketing, will present findings of the industry's influential annual report, "2014 ATM Software Trends and Analysis."
For the seventh year, KAL and ATM Marketplace have compiled and analyzed the views of executives worldwide — 800 of them this year — to create a clearer picture of the ATM software market.
The report profiles the trends and directions ATM software is taking currently. And, importantly, it also forecasts the demands that deployers and end-users are likely place on the ATM in the near future — demands that will lead to the development and implementation of new programs that offer still more capability and flexibility.
In the one-hour webinar, Hensley will summarize selected findings from the soon-to-be-released 2014 edition of guide, put them into a framework of consumer needs and expectations, and explain what it all might mean in terms of "customer experience" in a highly competitive financial marketplace.
The webinar will take place at 10 a.m. EST and is free and open to all, with advance online registration. Within one or two days of the webinar, a free replay will be made available at ATM Marketplace for those who are unable to attend.
