Nautilus Hyosung Inc. has opened a Global Software Center near Dayton, Ohio, that takes advantage of the expertise of former NCR Corp. employees. The center, which is located in Montgomery County, will support Nautilus Hyosung's worldwide ATM business.
"Montgomery County as a home for the center was a relatively easy decision," said Pillkoo Ryou, president and CEO of Nautilus Hyosung, which is based in Seoul, South Korea. "From a staffing perspective, the Dayton area has a deep pool of talent with literally decades of experience in the industries we target and with the customers we serve. Dayton also offers world-class educational resources and outstanding local research capabilities to support our business."
NCR, the world's largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments, announced in June 2009 that it was moving its headquarters from Dayton to Duluth, Ga. The headquarters employed 1,400 workers, but NCR offered jobs to only 250 people. Some NCR employees followed the company and relocated. Others who were offered jobs in Duluth decided to remain in the Dayton area for personal reasons.
The Global Software Center will develop software for ATMs and financial services applications. In addition, center employees will develop and demonstrate professional services capabilities to Nautilus Hyosung's client base.
In the United States, Nautilus Hyosung primarily serves the retail off-premise ATM market, but in the past few years the company has added staff to serve the financial services market. The manufacturer has hired former top executives from Diebold Inc. and NCR to sell and to market ATMs to banks and credit unions.
Nautilus Hyosung America Inc., a subsidiary of Nautilus Hyosung, in 2008 landed Citibank as an ATM customer. Industry experts considered the agreement a major breakthrough for Nautilus Hyosung.
The software center, which opened in October, will move to a permanent location next year in Montgomery County. Currently, it is housed in a temporary location. The center employs 30 workers.
Nautilus Hyosung is a subsidiary of Hyosung Group, an industrial company based in Seoul.
