Looking to secure your ATM from current and future threats? Diebold Nixdorf is sponsoring a live webinar on May 6 at 11 a.m. EST on how to secure ATMs from jackpotting and quantum computing with ATM Marketplace.

ATMs are under increasing threat from an older technique: jackpotting. This technique first developed in Latin America in 2013, when a group opened up the top of an ATM and installed malware to get the machine to dispense cash. This technique didn't reach the U.S. until 2018, initially targeting retail ATMs, but has since spread to financial institutions.
The FBI has warned of a recent major uptick in these attacks in the U.S., to the tune of $20 million in losses in 2025 which came from 700 attacks. There have been a total of 1,900 jackpotting incidents since 2020.
Banks and ATM operators need to handle this threat, but they also need to keep in mind a threat coming down the pipeline: quantum computing. Current estimates put quantum computing on the horizon in this decade, and with these tools, hackers could break encryption and authentication techniques wide open, leading to massive losses not just for ATMs but for financial institutions more broadly. It could also prove a great security risk for bitcoin ATM operators or cryptocurrency companies, as quantum computing could breach the cryptographic keys used to protect cryptocurrency wallets.
In order to prepare decision makers, Diebold Nixdorf is sponsoring a live webinar on May 6 at 11 a.m. EST. on how to secure ATMs from jackpotting and quantum computing with ATM Marketplace. Bradley Cooper, editor of ATM Marketplace, will moderate the discussion with experts Gregory Naranjo, ASAIC of investigations, Miami Cyber Fraud Task Force with the United States Secret Service, Jodi Neiding, VP of global banking hardware solutions and Christine Beine, director of product and solutions security at Diebold Nixdorf.
During the webinar, the panelists will provide both a high-level federal law enforcement perspective and a manufacturer's guidance on the current risk landscape, defending against current physical threats and prepping for quantum computing. Naranjo in particular, will share keen insights into how he tackled ATM skimming and jackpotting head-on in Central and South America, the Caribbean and southeastern Florida.
