Wincor Nixdorf earns top grade on sustainability report

Wincor Nixdorf announced it received an A+ grade on its first sustainability report to the Global Research Initiative. The GRI standard, which was established in 1997 in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program, serves as an international template for sustainability reporting.

The GRI report is held to be a key gauge of how seriously a company takes sustainable business practices. Judges assessed three key aspects of the Wincor Nixdorf report:

Ecology — materials deployment, energy saving, emissions and waste.

Economy — economic performance and market presence.

Social —health and safety, humane work, training and continuing education.

According to a 2011 KPMG survey, 69 percent of the 3,400 highest-selling companies in 34 countries adhere to the GRI guidelines; up to 80 percent of the world's 250 biggest companies see the GRI standard as a major factor influencing operations.

A separate 2010 survey by the UN Global Compact Initiative found that 93 percent of 800 CEOs responding expected sustainable business practices to have a major impact on their core business over the next ten years.
