Wal-mart signs with Fiserv for CheckFreePay bill-payment service
August 24, 2009
Brookfield, Wis.-based Fiserv Inc. has launched its CheckFreePay bill-payment service at Walmart, enabling the retailer's customers to pay bills in person at any Wal-mart location in the United States.
Wal-mart customers can pay utility, mobile-phone, auto-loan, insurance and credit card bills for more than 2,500 companies, Fiserv says in a news release about the service.
Jane Thompson, president of Walmart Financial Services, says the deal with Fiserv marks another step in Wal-mart's efforts to step up its financial services:
Offering our customers the convenience of walk-in bill payments at Wal-mart helps them simplify the management of their day-to-day finances.
Payments made using the CheckFreePay service are delivered electronically and flow to the billing company via Fiserv's electronic payment network.
