Visa's new ATM locator fee unfair, NAC says

Visa has introduced an ATM locator fee, and ATM owners are not happy about it.

According to a press release, the National ATM Council has sent an open letter to Visa listing the reasons why the fee should not be imposed, and citing past precedent for not having the fee.

The Visa fee covers the listing of an ATM's location on Visa's website, a service provided for the convenience of cardholders, regardless of whether the ATM owner wishes to be listed.

The NAC cited several reasons why it believes the fee is unfair — including that the program is not new; the service has not been subject to a charge in the past; and other networks provide the same service at no cost to the operator.
