Authorities are questioning a 26-year-old man suspected of blowing up an ATM in Hampshire, England at 4:00 a.m. on Easter morning. Given that the bomber targeted an ATM at a gas station, he might be considered lucky to be able to answer any questions at all.
According to a report by The Telegraph, the blast was strong enough to shake houses in the village — and did considerable damage to the Texaco station. The blast also blew open the safe of the ATM; police could not say how much money was stolen.
ATM bombings are relatively uncommon in the U.K., but such attacks have been increasing in frequency in Europe, The Telegraph said.
Police are advising citizens to steer clear of ATMs with wires or cables leading up to them. They also released CCTV footage of the blast itself. "[W]e hope it highlights how potentially dangerous an explosion of this type can be," said Hampshire Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Murray.
