U.S. Bank is first domestic bank to offer instant issuance of Visa payWave cards
August 3, 2009
U.S. Bank says it is now the first card issuer in the United States to add Visa payWave technology to an unembossed debit card. The cards are instantly issued, with software and hardware from Dynamic Card Solutions, to new account holders who sign with the bank.
According to a news release, the instant-issue Visa payWave pilot is being tested at select U.S. Bank branches in Denver and Salt Lake City. Dominic Venturo, chief innovation officer at U.S.Bank Retail Payment Solutions, says the instant card issuance is expected to help the bank streamline its payments processes:
 | Exploring smart and convenient ways to streamline payments is one of our top priorities. Our customers have demonstrated great interest in any development that makes their lives easier, whether it's by giving them a debit card the minute they open their account or speeding up their time in a check-out line. | |
The pilot allows U.S. Bank and its customers to explore the benefits of combining three technologies into one card — instant issuance, unembossed personalization and contactless payment. U.S. Bank says it chose Denver and Salt Lake City to test the cards because U.S. Bank customers there are familiar with contactless payments.
