U.S. Attorney prosecutes Romanian man for $50K ATM skimming theft

WGRZ-TV, Channel 2 (Buffalo, N.Y.):The United States Attorney's Office says it's prosecuting a Romanian man for stealing more than $50,000 through an ATM-skimming scam. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Mango said Tiberiu Szebeni, 29, used a skimmer to steal account information from ATM customers. Mango said once Szebeni obtained both the account and pin numbers, he transferred that information to empty store gift cards. Then Szebeni essentially turned each one into a clone of the original ATM card. At least 26 victims have been identified so far.
