The recent DBS skimming scandal is continuing to spread edginess in the Singapore banking community. Following the theft of customer receipts from the bin at a United Overseas Bank (UOB) ATM last Saturday night and the discovery that four UOB ATMs lacked skim-stopping “jitter” protection, UOB customers found themselves unable to withdraw cash from the bank's ATMs on Monday night, Channel NewsAsia reported.
UOB said the downtimes were due to additional maintenance security checks being conducted on the ATMs. The bank said the checks were part of ongoing security measures designed to help keep the network secure.
The ATM outage lasted for at least 20 minutes between 11pm and 11:30pm. Screen message on the machines informed customers that their transactions could not be processed when they tried withdrawing money from the ATMs. Customers were also advised to call the bank for help.
