PT Citra Bakti Indonesia has selected UL as its security advisor and first security evaluation partner for the implementation of chip-based ATM and debit cards in Indonesia.
CBI was established by the three switching operators in Indonesia to support the implementation of the industry standard of chip-based ATM/debit cards. CBI defines and manages a variety of certification processes for the conformance of card and related devices to the National Standard Indonesia Chip Card Specification, and acts as a liaison between various parties based on payment industry good governance principles.
The Indonesia Central Bank and Payment System Association have launched strategic initiatives to foster the creation of a secure, efficient and robust electronic payment system, and have now finalized an EMV chip card technical specification for ATM and debit cards.
As a certification service company, Citra Bank Indonesia will support implementation of the Indonesia chip card technical specification, NSICCS, for ATM and debit cards and related devices.
For CBI, UL will develop a document outlining NSICCS security requirements and guidelines, set up a security evaluation for NSICCS chip card payment applications submitted by card manufacturers, and perform the security evaluation for vendors.
"We are very pleased to have become the independent security laboratory partner of CBI," said Jean-Luc Khaou, head of UL transaction security in Asia. "We trust that we can deliver high quality services to assist CBI with ensuring compliance and security of the Indonesia chip-based ATMs and debit cards."
In addition to providing security evaluation services in Indonesia, UL recently opened a PCI PTS laboratory in China. The company said in the release that it will be expanding its compliance and security offering across the region.
