UL test labs now offer Discover accredited testing services, including full-functional card testing in conformity with Discover requirements for its contact D-PAS cards. These services help clarify the interpretation of Discover specifications and ensure global interoperability of payment cards, the company said in a news release.
Issuers of payment smart cards must ensure that the card is functionally compliant with the specification requirements set by a particular scheme.
The UL release said that the labs' testing and approval services check all aspects of smart cards: physical characteristics, and compatibility with EMV and ISO smart card standards to ensure interoperability and compliance.
"We are very pleased with the accreditation by Discover, which adds to our portfolio of accredited testing services we can offer for different schemes and industry organizations," said Berend van Geffen, commercial director of UL transaction security. "This accreditation will greatly benefit our customers, as it will help reduce their time-to-market and increases the efficiency of their tests."
Van Geffen said that the functional testing is performed in addition to the existing security testing, providing a one-stop-shop for card testing.
