U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading expands probe into interchange fees
February 11, 2007
Reuters: Britain's consumer watchdog, the Office of Fair Trading, is expanding its inquiry into the interchange fees charged by credit card associations. The OFT has said the fees are excessive, and has likened them to a tax on consumers. It plans to extend the investigation to include immediate debit cards. The OFT has been investigating MasterCard's fees since 2000. In October, it started an investigation into Visa's fees.
