Police in Thailand arrested five Bulgarian nationals on charges that they used counterfeit bank cards to make ATM withdrawals, said a news report at novinite.com. The police seized 32 fake cards in the Bulgarians' possession.
The group taken into custody included three men and two women; one of the men was picked up by Thai police as he stood at an ATM making a withdrawal.
The rest of the gang was rounded up after the first man arrested named them to the police. He said they were hired by a group in Bulgaria that stole the bankcard information and made the counterfeit cards.
According to the news account, police said the suspects confessed to transferring stolen cash from Thailand to Bulgaria via Western Union. They received 10 per cent of the take from the ATM withdrawals.
