A new "research note" from Mercator Advisory Group reviews how ATMs are becoming banking hubs in many cash-centric markets throughout the world, and how the ATM's stature has been elevated by functionalities beyond simple cash withdrawal and deposits.
The study, "Global ATM Functionality Overview," expands on material presented in the 2012 ATM Market Benchmark Report by Mercator, the company said in a press release.
As the use of ATMs grows worldwide, so does the range of global banking needs these machines accommodate, said Ed O'Brien, director of the banking channels advisory service at Mercator Advisory Group and author of the report. "Institutions in many countries have already discovered the intrinsic value of self-service banking, with ATMs being a hub of activity for many transactions."
