Burroughs Inc. has announced that it has licensed out its CAPI patent (6,546,396) to Silver Bullet Technologies Inc., a developer of check scanner middle-ware, for use in Silver Bullet Ranger and follow-on software products for use with tabletop scanners.
The licensing agreement with Burroughs allows Silver Bullet to use the patented software technology as part of its industry-standard common programming interface for multiple scanner models and manufacturers.
"Burroughs CAPI software has always been considered the industry leader in flexibility and feature content," said Alan Howard, CEO of Burroughs Inc. "The superiority of the Ranger interface when incorporating Burroughs patented features provides a clear advantage to Silver Bullet customers."
Bryan Clark, CEO of Silver Bullet said the agreement covering its Ranger product would eliminate the potential legal challenges involved in obtaining license agreements for multiple scanners across an enterprise.
"The licensing of the Burroughs patented features in the Ranger product provides our current and future customers the knowledge that they can utilize a variety of scanners throughout their enterprise in a fully legal manner," Clark said.
After Aug. 16, all new Silver Bullet Ranger licenses will be covered under the agreement, unless otherwise specified by Silver Bullet. Financial royalty terms of the deal have not been made public.
