Reverse-ATM-PIN functionality doesn't exist

iafrica.com:Johannesburg, South Africa-based Absa Group Ltd. has quashed claims that entering a reverse PIN at the ATM will alert police of suspicious activity. "We have become aware that there's a circulating e-mail claiming that if ATM users type in their PIN in reverse the police would come and assist them at a specific ATM," an Absa spokesman said. "We want to warn our customers that this ATM-PIN-reversal functionality does not exist at Absa ATMs."
Other claims about reverse-ATM-PIN functionality have surfaced on the Internet. Other financial institutions, like Absa, say they do not know from where the bogus e-mail originated.
