CIO Today: A British researcher has expressed doubt about whether new security technology being rolled out by the British government will be an effective method in the fight against identity theft. The new "chip and PIN" program is designed to replace ATM and other bank cards that rely on magnetic strips. The new cards have been touted by the British government and by retailers as a more secure way to transact retail purchases. Emily Finch of the University of East Anglia said the new technology simply will prompt thieves to alter their behavior and get more sophisticated.
