RESEARCH: Putting identity theft into perspective

EMV cards provide consumers secure POS payments and ATM cash withdrawals. Now one expert explores the role EMV cards could play elsewhere in ensuring consumer data is protected.

Level Four's Arthur Morrison argues that ATMs could be used to reduce identity theft. In his research report, "Could ATMs reduce identity theft?" Morrison says financial institutions could validate customer identity via EMV cards on existing ATM networks. "By its very nature, an EMV card is encrypted and could also therefore ensure secure personal identity through a bank's encrypted networks."
