RBS ripped for tightening mobile bank, ATM service times

April 12, 2018

After receiving bitter criticism for shutting bank branches in small villages across Scotland, RBS is again under fire — this time for sharply limiting available hours (minutes, actually) for mobile ATM and banking units meant to serve now branchless locations.

Starting May 21, the service will visit more places weekly, but for shorter durations — as brief as 15 or 20 minutes in some instances — according to a BBC report.

Colin Borland of the Federation of Small Businesses, said the move went counter to the bank's promise that it would mitigate branch closures with smart ATMs and mobile banking units.

"RBS looks again like it is trying to cut services that customers find valuable," he said.

RBS said that it welcomes feedback on its mobile service and that the bank will regularly review the service schedule to make sure that the service was meeting customers' needs.
