Qatar Islamic Bank, NCR team up to fight fraud

April 14, 2014

Qatar Islamic Bank, the largest Shari'a-compliant bank in Qatar, is adding new anti-skimming solutions to its ATMs and bolstering IT security to defend against growing fraud threats.

QIB and NCR Corp. have signed a strategic agreement for the implementation of several security technology projects in 2014.

NCR will provide its skimming protection solution. The company also will enhance IT infrastructure at QIB with migration to Windows 7, and the addition of security firewalls, network access control, a data center switches upgrade, and a technology refresh of FI's entire telephony system.

QIB has already implemented Solidcore Suite for APTRA. The ATM whitelisting software protects ATMs from insider attacks by preventing the introduction of unauthorized code on the network.

"Our agreement with NCR will deliver the latest software and hardware technology to help protect QIB banking platforms so we can sharpen our focus on productivity and protect our clients' data — a key pillar of our business strategy and a continuous improvement we have in plan," said Ghazi Qarout, Qatar Islamic Bank CIO.

"We are confident that these solutions will improve ATM availability, as well as consumer confidence and help QIB further expand its leadership in ATM innovation and consumer experience," said George Flouros, MEA Region VP for Financial Solutions.
