Metro, the regional government organization responsible for growth and attractions in Portland, Oregon, has partnered with Peregrin Financial Technologies to provide ATM services for out-of-town visitors — and local residents.

A news release said that Peregrin is providing Metro with 18 ATMs around the Portland metropolitan area, as well as vault cash, processing and maintenance services.

Metro previously owned and operated 14 ATMs. Peregrin replaced four of those with newer models and added four more at no extra cost to increase availability, the release said.

Peregrin also upgraded the ATMs with faster communication capabilities to shorten transaction times during high-traffic periods, and introduced custom screens with graphics tied to the location.

"We are happy to partner with Peregrin to provide ATM services to Portland metropolitan visitors," said Metro Finance Director Tim Collier. "Faster transactions and better ATMs conveniently put cash in the hands of visitors to the Portland area attractions such as the Oregon Zoo, the Oregon Convention Center, Portland's Center for the Performing Arts and the Portland Expo Center."

According to Peregrin President Sam Bosch, Metro reaps benefits that include reduced operating expenses, and the elimination of costs involved with ongoing regulatory compliance and other updates. In addition, Metro receives a portion of the transaction fees, estimated at $100,000 annually.
