August 7, 2015

A new Associated Press-GfKpollhas found that only about 10 percent of Americans have received a chip-enabled payment card. And of that 10 percent, less than one-third have actually completed a transaction using the chip.

Interestingly, the poll also showed that while 41 percent of Americans have received a new credit or debit card in the past few months, only 30 percent of this group have received a chip card.

On the plus side, 70 percent of Americans who have received chip cards said they know how to use them.

However, the poll also showed that consumers were more concerned about the security of their card information online than in stores.

The AP-GfK Poll of 1,004 adults was conducted online July 9–13 with a representative sample of the U.S. population.
