Hackers from North Korea's notorious Lazarus Group allegedly took advantage of an unwary employee of Chile's interbank ATM network, Redbanc, in order to infiltrate the system late last year.
According to a report by ZD Net, the attack occurred when the employee responded to a fake job posting on LinkedIn.
During a staged "interview" conducted in Spanish, the hackers were able to get the employee to download an executable file disguised as an application form. The file contained the malware PowerRatankba, which previously has been linked to the North Korean group.
In a notice posted on its website, Redbanc said that it was alerted to the threat "so it proceeded to activate all the pre-established protocols immediately, which included isolating the eventual problem, safeguarding the security and operational continuity of our services. This event had no impact on our operations, keeping our services running smoothly."
