NYC ATM bill forger arrested

It didn't take long for authorities to find the culprit behind the fake bills put into Chase Bank ATMs in New York City. Not surprising considering the criminal mastermind's work was described as "amateurish" by ATM technicians who inspected the bogus bills. (The counterfeit notes were printed without backs.)

WNBC-TV reported that Gene Carlo Pena was arrested at Kennedy Airport Monday afternoon after voluntarily returning to the U.S. to face charges. Pena was employed by the company that serviced the ATMs for Chase.

WNBC reported Pena shorted the ATMs for approximately $11,000 using the fake cash to fool the ATMs into thinking they contained more cash than they actually did. (The original report from the New York Times said the amount was $110,000.)

Pena is now facing a number of charges, including embezzlement, WNBC reported.
