New white paper explains EMV key management 'for the rest of us'

EMV specialist Cryptomathic has published a white paper, "EMV Key Management — Explained." The document could be useful to payment card issuers and services providers deploying EMV payments technology, the company said.

According to Cryptomathic, this simple, straightforward white paper will be of interest not only to providers who are about to migrate to EMV, but also to existing EMV stakeholders who want to better understand this intricate subject.

The paper offers an overview of the cryptographic processes involved in issuing and managing payment card and mobile applications based on EMV. It also outlines the EMV key management framework and offers unambiguous definitions of the technologies and terms used within this field.

"We identified a real market need to bring clarity to this complicated subject and encourage understanding within the industry," said Martin Eriksen, EMV product manager at Cryptomathic.
