NCR to expand production in China

April 9, 2012

NCR is ramping up its manufacturing activity in China with the expansion of production at the company's Beijing plant, said an article at chinadaily.com. In addition, NCR will begin kiosk and POS terminal production at the plant, which previously was dedicated to the manufacture of ATMs.

The move is expected to position NCR for continued growth throughout Asia, but especially in China, where the company currently claims the largest share of the installed ATM market, the China Daily article said. It cited an RBR study predicting that China would supplant the U.S. as the world's biggest ATM market next year and would double its POS terminal count from 2010 to 2016.

"China is a key growth market for NCR, where there is huge market potential for self-service solutions across multiple industries," Rick Marquardt, senior vice-president, Worldwide Operations for NCR Marquardt told China Daily.

"The Beijing plant is critical to support our regional manufacturing model in enabling us to create better customer intimacy, respond faster to market demand and foster innovations locally. The strong volume growth is not only driven by local market growth, it has also proven our success for ongoing investment in automation innovation to increase employee productivity," he added.
