NCR marks first European deployment of Interactive Banker

July 9, 2014

Banca Popolare di Bari, one of Italy’s largest banks, has tapped NCR Corp. to help implement the bank's vision for a ‘branch of the future.’ This includes the first European deployment of NCR Interactive Banker — software-based technology that allows an FI to eliminate teller counters, queues and vaults, to create a smaller, more personal branch.

Interactive Banker includes two components: The first is an advanced financial services kiosk that can complete up to 90 percent of typical branch transactions, such as large cash withdrawals and complex deposits. The second is a tablet PC linked to real-time customer information, which frees employees to roam the branch and assist customers as needed at the kiosks.

The tablet instantly alerts bank employees when a customer at a kiosk needs attention — for instance, in the case of a forgotten PIN, a malfunctioning card, or a transaction override when appropriate.

Banca Popolare will deploy NCR Interactive Banker to flagship branches in 2014. The bank expects to open additional ‘branches of the future’ in 2015, and plans to implement NCR Interactive Teller at a future date.

“Allowing customers to bank on their own terms is at the heart of how financial institutions are evolving their branch and omni-channel banking services," said Lorenza Sbarbaro, director of financial services at NCR Italy. "Banca Popolare di Bari has a strong vision of how they wish to achieve this and we are proud to be their partner of choice for branch transformation.”

Interactive Banker is part of the NCR Interactive Services portfolio that also includes Interactive Teller. The hardware is supported NCR APTRA Activate, a vendor-independent self-service ATM software application that enables complex multichannel banking operations.
