MRV Communications to provide ATM network for Japan

May 28, 2008

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — MRV Communications Inc., a provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE and other service aware networking products, today announced Japanese telecommunications service provider Softbank Telecom Corp. has chosen MRV's Fiber Driver optical multi-service platform as the basis for its Japan-wide ATM access network and has completed the deployment across the country.

Softbank Telecom Corp. built the Fiber Driver network using a unique bi-directional single fiber capability that allowed the company to reduce its fiber needs overall and significantly reduce its operating expenditures from the beginning of the project. The network includes more than several thousand Fiber Driver demarcation devices, and leverages the system's link monitoring capabilities coupled with its operations, administration and maintenance management framework for service level assurance.

"This network marks one of our largest installations worldwide with a tier-one carrier and demonstrates that the high-performance and feature-rich Fiber Driver platform can scale to serve the needs of very large networks," said Noam Lotan, president and chief executive officer of MRV Communications. "Softbank Telecom Corp.'s implementation of our Fiber Driver optical multi-service platform and bi-directional single fiber connections demonstrates the demand among carriers to have an easily manageable platform that gives the company the ability to dynamically offer new services to its subscribers."

All Fiber Driver products, together with support, are provided by MRV through Nihon Cornet Technology, K.K, its master distributor in Japan.
