Canadians have deposited more than 1 million checks via mobile phone since the Canadian Payments Association approved a rule last year allowing mobile remote deposit capture.
The RDC data, compiled by NCR Corp., also indicates that mobile deposits have doubled every quarter since Canadian banks began to deploy the technology in April 2013, according to a company news release.
“Canadians have embraced this technology because it is convenient and secure,” said Steve Nogalo, VP and GM of global payments solutions at NCR. Nogalo added that the company is continuing to find new ways to apply mobile technology to everyday transactions.
More than 20 financial institutions in Canada now offer mobile check deposit to their customers. For North America (including the U.S., which adopted RDC several years ago), consumer and business clients have deposited more than 100 million checks using NCR APTRA Passport for Mobile, the release said.
The solution is an omni-channel RDC hub, that allows an FI to capture and consolidate business and consumer check deposits made from remote locations directly into back-office processing.
