MasterCard OKs Collis test tool for contactless NIV

June 21, 2013

The Collis Brand Test Tool, developed by the UL transaction security team, has passed qualification by MasterCard for contactless network interface validation testing. As a result, the test tool is now is now qualified for both contact and contactless NIV testing, and equipped to support acquirers in a full range of terminal and network interface validations.

To correctly process PayPass transactions, acquirers must validate their network interfaces with MasterCard. NIV testing ensures that authorization and clearing interfaces are in accordance with current MasterCard requirements. NIV Subset 7 ensures that acquirers send correctly formatted PayPass M/Chip authorization requests and successfully process the resulting response messages.

UL Transaction Security recently implemented NIV Subset 7 in the Collis card simulator, an integral part of Collis Brand Test Tool. This implementation includes two new card simulations related to mobile behavior (MCC_420 and MSI_420) to cover NIV Subset 7.

"UL continues to develop high quality test tools for the payment market by improving and expanding the Collis Test Tool portfolio," said Maxim Dyachenko, service line manager for test tools at UL transaction security. "This new qualification enables us to provide a complete solution for acquirers to successfully introduce PayPass on their terminals."

The Collis Brand Test Tool has the ability to simulate any test card, both contact and contactless, UL said. Using card simulation takes away the need for physical cards that can become corrupted or lost. It also provides detailed insight into the end-to-end behavior of the system.
