Lipman terminal offered as part of U.S. Wireless Data`s Wireless Express Payment Service

February 24, 2002

EMERYVILLE, Calif.-- Lipman USA Inc., the nation's third largest supplier of POS terminals, and U.S. Wireless Data, Inc. jointly announced the availability of the NURIT 2090 POS/EDC terminal as part of the Wireless Express Payment Service.

The NURIT 2090 is a compact POS terminal supporting credit, debit, check, electronic benefits transfer (EBT), phone card and other electronically submitted transactions including those made by the use of smart chip cards. The NURIT 2090 has a high-speed, built-in thermal printer that eliminates the need for ribbon replacement, thus substantially reducing mechanical malfunction and increasing transaction speed. It comes with a built-in 5 or 9-hour UPS battery.

The Wireless Express Payment Service is an integrated set of components designed to deliver and transmit payment transactions from merchants to payment processors. WEPS utilizes the USWD 500 CDPD modem integrated into a terminal device. It includes encryption and online diagnostic techniques. It uses the Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) networks of several carriers. And, it includes a transaction processing server to reformat transactions and simplify the connections between wireless facilities and processors' existing front-end systems.

In order to provide support for WEPS, Lipman integrated the proprietary USWD 500 CDPD modem into their NURIT 2090 POS/EDC terminal and correspondingly modified the terminal's internal software.
