Latest FIME auto test tool gets EMVCo OK

September 4, 2013

EMVCo has approved the latest version of the FIME automated EMV contactless analog test bench for EMV Contactless Specification Level 1. This particular EMVCo contactless specification describes the minimum functionality required for operation and market interoperability of contactless payment cards.

The tool is available as an off-the-shelf product for in-house testing and is currently used by FIME as part of its EMVCo-accredited laboratory offering to validate EMVCo proximity integrated circuit cards.

"The automation functionality of the tool significantly increases the speed and reliability of the test results," said Vincent Poty, head of strategy and corporate development at FIME. "It also enables interested parties — such as contactless card manufacturers and near-field-communication handset manufacturers — to independently use the test tool to ensure EMV alignment during their development activities.

"There is a lot of activity taking place within the contactless payments ecosystem," Poty said. "As our role is to balance payment technology innovation with solutions that will inter-operate securely once live in the field, we are extremely dedicated to the development of evaluation and certification programmes; combining real-world implementation challenges with future technical ambitions."

In addition to its certified status as an EMVCo laboratory, FIME has also achieved accredited laboratory status and test tools qualification from industry bodies such as GlobalPlatform, Isis and NFC Forum, to name a few.

EMVCo is the EMV standards body collectively owned by American Express, JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay and Visa. It accredits laboratories and qualifies test tools that in turn can deliver EMV product approval.
