ePaynews.com:In Japan, consumer awareness of EMV chip cards is high, reportedly because of the early efforts of JCB, Japan's largest payment-card issuer, to accelerate national EMV migration. Findings from the Japan Credit Card Association show that 93 percent of 684 consumers interviewed expressed a preference for chip cards, while 54 percent knew that magnetic-stripe cards are being phased out.
Smart cards were popular with consumers because of their anti-counterfeiting functions (64 percent), PIN security (50 percent), and because the cards are used in visible proximity to a cash till (42 percent).
