Brian Krebs of Krebs on Security recently wrote about an industrious Ukrainian who set about making audio skimmers, which he offered for the price of $2,450 at an online bazaar selling thievery-purposed accessories.
The Ukranian's audio skimmer was a "relatively pro-grade" product assembled from MP3 player parts, a cheap-o flash drive, and a spy camera.
His product listing offered an uncharacteristically honest (for a crook) description of the skimmer components, all of which could be found — and priced — at any online electronics store.
Would-be fraudsters trolling online for a nicely priced ATM skimmer were shocked, shocked by the grossly inflated price of the Ukrainian's skimmer. Shoppers left pages of outraged comments, calling it a complete rip-off. They should know.
