BURNABY, British Columbia - Inetco Systems Ltd., which provides ATM and POS connectivity solutions, is providing Triple DES encryption to wireless ATMs. According to a news release, a pilot is launching with an unnamed financial institution in New Zealand.
Inetco's Vista terminal adapter, a solution for connecting dial-up and leased line ATMs to IP and wireless networks, is being used to connect the bank's leased line ATMs to a GPRS network. The ATMs are being connected with end-to-end encryption through the network to a payment gateway. The pilot allows the bank to retain full control of its ATM network while providing financial industry standards for security to a GPRS network.
Inetco implemented a secure hardware based Host Security Module, which is FIPS 140 Level 3 compliant and supports tamper-resistant key storage, rolling session keys and locally runs all encryption/decryption algorithms. In addition Vista, encrypts the full transaction and provides a secure tunnel across the entire GPRS network.
"Network security has always been of utmost importance to the ATM and EFTPOS industry, but is even more so today," said David Soul, Inetco's president. "Financial institutions and network operators are not only demanding end-to-end connectivity in wireless networks, they are demanding the end-to-end security which the Vista solution provides."
