Hong Kong FI signs with HP for new branch tech

March 21, 2007

HONG KONG - CITIC Ka Wah Bank Ltd. has selected Hewlett-Packard as its strategic IT partner for the bank's deployment of an advanced branch-banking infrastructure that help automate the branch.

The deployment is expected to help the bank enhance customer experience and increase its competitive edge in the banking market.

According to a news release, the HP OpenBank solution - an open retail-banking architecture that integrates front- and back-end systems using open-standard processes and technologies - will power the branch.

"The deployment of one advanced system covering our front-end and processing systems will enable us to deliver enhanced services, and underlines our commitment to continuous innovation and service excellence," said Lorainne Lam, head of retail banking Group for Wah Bank. "It will also support the bank's continuing business expansion by providing a solid system foundation for introducing additional applications in the future to accommodate its broadening range of products and services."

The deployment, which began in the third quarter of 2005, will be completed in two phases. The first phase involves replacing the existing branch-banking infrastructure, deploying HP OpenBank, and integrating the bank's online system with a core-banking system. The second phase involves transforming the bank's teller operations to sales operations that allow tellers to serve in a more advisory capacity.
