French ATM/debit cards gain more cashless payments

ePaynews.com:France, together with the United Kingdom, is a leader in Europe's EMV migration, with 40 percent of ATM/debit cards (19.2 million) and 62 percent of its POS terminals (438,661 in all) converted in May 2005. By contrast, the rest of Europe had EMV-enabled about 35 percent of issued ATM/debit cards, 26.6 percent of POS terminals and 38.4 percent of ATMs by June 2005. Card and cashless payments continue to gain traction in France, with card association Groupement des Cartes Bancaires advising that in 2004, ATM/debit cards accounted for 39.2 percent of cashless payments, up from 38.1 percent in 2003.
