Free white paper helps ATM deployers get ready for a contactless, cardless future

July 23, 2014

According to the 2014 U.S. Independent ATM Deployer Survey, nearly 35 percent of ATM deployers are working on a strategy to implement contactless ATM transactions. Slightly more than 15 percent are unsure about their plans, or needed more information in order to decide whether to offer contactless or cardless transactions.

To help ATM deployers prepare for the future of mobile ATM technology, the ATM Industry Association and Kahuna ATM Solutions have produced a free, comprehensive white paper, "Cardless ATMs: Are Mobile Transactions the Future of the ATM Industry?"

The document explores current and pending technologies that IADs should consider offering within an EMV-based payments framework, and includes:

  • a review of how cardless technology works;
  • the difference between EMV-based cardless transactions and contactless transactions that use near field communication;
  • mobile ATM solutions on the market today; and
  • how leading financial instructions and IADs in other parts of the world are approaching the implementation of cardless ATM transactions.

"What IADs must consider when upgrading to EMV are the types of transactions they plan to accept five to 10 years from now," said ATMIA USA Executive Director David Tente. “We need to be thinking about how we can ultimately make EMV-compliant ATMs cardless-acceptance ATMs to meet the demands of our technology driven society.”

The free white paper is available for download at the ATMIA and Kahuna websites.
