The (Malaysia) Star:The local banking sector in Malaysia achieved a milestone in December, when Bank Negara allowed foreign banks operating in Malaysia to set up four new branches each in the country this year. More ground-breaking events are expected as the central bank works through recommendations to liberalize the banking industry in three phases. At the top of the list is the relaxation of the regulations for off-premise ATMs. Foreign banks are looking for more comprehensive access through ATM networks.
