FNB Namibia celebrates 97% ATM uptime

May 16, 2013

In many African countries, ATM uptime is a troublesome issue, fraught with power grid failures, network breakdowns, long trips for maintenance and challenging weather conditions. So it's no wonder that First National Bank in Namibia is giving itself kudos for achieving record uptime over the last six months.

According to a report by All Africa the bank is claiming that 97 percent of its 195 ATMs were operational and online for the half-year period. The bank credits fast service response times for its success.

ATM department manager for FNB, Brandon Brock, said that maintenance personnel respond to service outages within 20 minutes at a branch and one hour off-site. He told All Africa that he was pushing for 98 percent uptime.

This might be entirely achievable as FNB Namibia is currently replacing its older-model ATMs with newer, faster and more reliable ones. FNB currently owns 41 percent of Namibia's ATMs.
