Florida woman gets $1800 surprise at ATM

May 22, 2012

Say you're just minding your own business, pulling up to a drive-thru ATM when you notice money hanging out of the deposit slot. A lot of it. And say there's not another soul in sight. What next?

When a Florida woman found herself in just that situation last Sunday at an ATM in Boynton Beach, she did the first thing that came to mind, said a story in the Sun-Sentinel. She tried to push the money — $1,800 dollars in hundreds — into the deposit slot.

When that didn't work, she did the second thing that came to mind. She called police.

"They couldn't believe that I was calling for that," Adriana Allen, the woman who found the  money, told the Sun Sentinel.

On Monday, police were working with the bank, checking deposit records and security cameras to find the owner of the money.

"It's a good story," Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Slater told the Sun-Sentinel. "This woman is a great example of what you should do."
