First Data plans data-center cuts

Digital Transactions: As part of its efforts to rationalize operations, First Data Corp. plans to consolidate its 12 U.S. data centers into three. The consolidation is expected to take years and is slated for initiation during the second quarter of 2007. The total cost of the initiative is estimated to be $225 million. Consolidation of the company's U.S. processing applications or so-called platforms is still "under development."
