First Data buys Argentinean processor

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - First Data International has completed its acquisition of Argencard, S.A., a leading processor of payment transactions in Argentina and Uruguay.
According to a news release, the company plans to operate under the First Data International name.
The acquisition establishes First Data's presence in South America and provides an opportunity for First Data to expand its electronic payment processing across the region.
"We are very excited to complete the acquisition of Argencard," said Peter Harrington, First Data president for Latin America. "We believe that the combination of Argencard's market knowledge with First Data's global resources and payment processing expertise positions the company to deliver an extended service proposition to clients in the region."
