FireEye acquires X15 Software to accelerate delivery of next-gen security platform

FireEye Inc., an intelligence-led security company, has acquired X15 Software and its next-gen big data platform, according to a press release.

The acquisition, which closed Jan. 11, will add significant data management capabilities. The open platform allows users to integrate machine-generated data and easily incorporate new security technologies and big data sources as the threat environment evolves, the company said.

"Organizations today are overwhelmed by alerts, the number of tools required to manage their security operations and the challenge of unifying access to the large volumes of data that matter," John Laliberte, senior vice president of engineering at FireEye, said in the release. "The X15 Software team built an incredibly versatile, enterprise-grade big data platform that enables distributed, real-time access and ingestion of data at scale within a unified data model and modular query language. X15 Software technology will accelerate our strategy of delivering an innovative, next-gen security platform."

The integration of X15 Software technology will provide:

  • Big data management capabilities, solving the complex problem of collecting, querying and analyzing large volumes of machine-generated data in real time.
  • One management console with the flexibility to manage security data from on-premises, hybrid and cloud environments, including AWS Microsoft Azure; Google Cloud Platform; and Oracle Cloud.
  • The ability to accelerate the capabilities of the FireEye platform to help organizations to more effectively leverage security data and keep pace with threats.

Under the terms of the acquisition agreement, FireEye will pay approximately $15 million in equity and $5 million in cash.
